Buffett stated that he would contribute more than 80 percent to charitable foundations. In the year 2020, he boosted that amount to 99 percent. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation established by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the main beneficiary. This foundation focused on education and global health. Bill and Buffett had been friends since the 1990s. Other organizations that received donations were those run by Buffett's sons, and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation named after his late wife. This foundation focuses on reproductive health for women and funded scholarships for college. In the year 2010, Buffett and Gates came up with the Giving Pledge. This pledge also encouraged other wealthy individuals to contribute a significant portion of their fortunes to charities.
